April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and is set to join the team in Tokyo. Ross hopes to win more than her first Olympic medal. Perhaps it is her last chance, at 39 years old. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even playing well I'm sure we'll be able to win gold." Then I will also take some chance. Ross born the 22, 1982, located in Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area with her family. At Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of sports. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball as well as basketball, running and track. She was definitely a cut above the rest in the latter sport. In her college profile, she was an outside-hitting hitter, middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time in high school. Gatorade Circle Of Champions named her the national Player 1999. She also received the Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Ross has been working with Klineman from 2017 but her beach game had been established long before that. As a matter of fact Ross has been a winner of several major tournaments in her career with two partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Between 2007 and 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Kessy was Ross's teammate at the World Championships in 2009. In 2012, the pair took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings the legendary team who took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, edged their opponents to claim the gold. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate as Maytreanor resigned. In 2016, the pair won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college the years prior to her professional career. Ross's time in the Trojans was remarkable. In 2000, as a freshman, her play earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. The Trojans were also able to reach the Final Four with her help. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss in her sophomore, but was still capable of achieving the All-American distinction. In her two final years with the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them win consecutive championships. She had established herself as an all-time great having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross studied the field of international relations in USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie was not able to witness Ross's daughter reach the top levels of beach volleyball stardom. Ross's mother passed away from breast cancer while she was a sophomore in USC. She continues to cherish her late parent. Margie continues to be an inspiration on and off of the shore.
